my process

it didn’t matter what time of day it was. at least 80% of the best of the worst was written with an iced coffee between my keyboard and me. iced coffee with oat milk, maple syrup, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. sometimes, while I was falling asleep, an idea would pop into my head and I would write it in my notes app, in the darkness, light coming only from the brightness of my phone.

i would write when i got home from rehab. for hours. i needed to get my thoughts onto paper. it was how i made sense of what was happening. to put it into my own words. all of the haiku were written around the time of the book. not necessarily chronologically or written for specific chapters.

it was easier to write about what had already happened until i caught up with my own life and started writing in real time. when i got home and on weekends. i would sip while i wrote. caffeine fueled clarity while i reflected on the previous weeks, months, and years.
